Phil Lancaster

Where I'm from: Leeds, West Yorkshire

What I do: I'm a trainee Quantity Surveyor.

How I got interested in the Master System: Many years ago my friend wanted me to buy an NES like him so we could swap games. The truth is I've always hated Mario and didn't see the point of irritating Nintendo characters such as Kirby. Actually I had my heart set on buying a Sega. I couldn't afford a Mega Drive but just had enough money for an SMS II! I guess I wanted a Sega because of Sonic, I don't think I'd ever played on it before but had heard it was an amazing game. I wasn't disappointed, I was amazed with the bright colourful graphics and the palm trees on the first stage. When you've only owned a Atari VCS and Zx Spectrum before the SMS was a huge step forward. Although this was 1993 and everybody I knew called my Sega "crap," I bloody loved it. My friend liked the SMS only because of World Soccer, I don't know why! Would I sell it? No! Would I swap it for a girlfriend? Maybe!

Top five favorite games: Sonic the Hedgehog, Castle Of Illusion: Starring Mickey Mouse, Star Wars, Road Rash and Wonderboy In Monster World

My SMS Collection: My collection isn't that big. Although I bought the system way back in the summer of 1993, I now have over 200 games including some Tec Toy releases such as Street Fighter II, Earthworm Jim and Dynamite Headdy. My games collection is now getting larger; for many years I neglected the SMS but not anymore! I have quite a few peripherals such as a few Control Sticks, Sports Pads, 3D Glasses, Control Pads and Handle Controllers. I own the original SMS I, 3 Sms II's, an SMS Compact and SMS Handy.
