Sam Werret

Where I'm from: I'm from East Sussex, England. Born on the 7th April 1986... same year the master system was born.

What I do: Currently between jobs (basically unemployed and claiming the tax payers money). Hobbies other than the Master System would include Judo (I'm a 1st dan black belt), music (I play guitar and a bit of bass too and play/"sing" in a punk rock band), going out and getting wasted and being a total nutcase whenever I can.

How I got interested in the Master System: I remember for Christmas in the early 90's my sister got a Sega Master System II with Alex Kidd In Miracle World built in and it also came with Sonic The Hedgehog. She always used to let me play it. I remember we always used to play it together and get really exited when we got to different levels on different games we had, we used to have so much fun. But after a few years my sister got bored with gaming and gave me the system with all her games (Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic Chaos, Lucky Dime Caper, Olympic Gold, Winter Olympics, Lion King, Jungle Book and a few others). At this time no one really had a Master System anymore and everyone had a SNES or Mega Drive (I also bought a Mega Drive, but it was the Master System I was always interested in more). I discovered a very dodgy shop in my town that was run by scary looking men with shaved heads and covered in tattoos. They sold guns, knives and all sorts of weapons and ammunition. This establishment became known to all the local gamers as "the gun shop because they also specialised in second hand electronics. So they had games, CDs, videos and all the machines to play them all. I was stunned when I realised that they sold second-hand Master System games for £5 ! £5 in about 1994 is dirt cheap for a Master System game I thought!. So my collection grew mainly from that shop. I had about 30ish games around 1996, but put them all away in the cupboard because I decided to do the stupid thing and buy a Playstation, which was all the rage by then. But it just got boring and expensive to keep buying games. I was looking at Playstation games one day when I thought, "Bollocks I'll go and buy a load of Master System games rather than 1 Playstation game!!." And that moment was when I realised that I love the Master System more than any other console because of the memories, the fun and just that "Master Systemy feel" that is just brilliant and no other console can offer. So I decided to collect all the games I could get. For the following few years all I bought was Master System games from the Gun Shop. After I cleared them out of all the titles I needed, I shopped in bootfairs etc, collecting title after title. Then I realised one of the best ways of getting games, eBay! So more and more games came to me that way and my collection was in excess of 120ish titles. My ex had a Master System back in the day, and she helped myecollect games and I rekindled her love for the system. when we broke up she let me keep all the games she had bought. Muahaha! Also, more recently, I have discovered another great way of getting games, that is the fantastic buy one get one free deal at Gamestation. It's all so damn cool!

Top five favorite games: In no particular order: Alex Kidd In Miracle World, Y's The Vanished Omens, Aztec Adventure, The Ninja and Land Of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse.

My SMS Collection: I think I have something between 180 and 190 games at the moment (not including duplicates), several different systems and also Mega Drive and Game Gear converters. I'm not so fussed on getting all the box variations really, I just want a copy of every game released in Europe. I will not rest untill I have all the Euro releases, then i might set my sights on all the games ever released in the world. (who knows, I might want more and get the cover variations).
